Christopher Hisey is one of Connecticut’s leading young conductors. Formerly a GBYO member, strings coach and conductor of the Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Hisey is in his fifth season as GBYO’s Music Director and Principal Orchestra Conductor. He has conducted throughout the United States, Europe and in Mexico. He made his international debut with the Philharmonic Orchestra in Ruse Bulgaria. He has also made appearances with the Pleven Philharmonic, in Pleven Bulgaria and the St. Petersburg “Klassika” Symphony, formerly the Leningrad State Philharmonic. In the spring of 2012, Mr. Hisey stepped in for Gustav Meier, on very short notice, to conduct the Greater Bridgeport Symphony and was the conductor the symphony’s Holiday Pops concert in December of 2012.
Mr. Hisey serves as the Music Director/Conductor of the American Chamber Orchestra, an ensemble he co-founded in 2003. Mr. Hisey also serves as Music Director of the Civic Orchestra of New Haven. Mr. Hisey has been the Music Director/Conductor of the Connecticut Valley Chamber Orchestra and Troupers Light Opera. He is a respected and sought after music educator who serves as the Director of Orchestras at Greens Farms Academy, and has served on the Conducting and String faculties of Manhattanville College, Fairfield University and the Westport School of Music. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, Christopher received a bachelor’s degree in viola performance, studying with James Dunham, violist of the Cleveland Quartet. He went on to receive a Master of Music from Bowling Green State University where he served as Associate Conductor of the Bowling Green Philharmonia and Opera Theatre Orchestra, studying with Dr. Emily Freeman Brown.
Anna Kepe – Haas has worked in the performing arts industry her entire life and for the past twelve years have concentrated her time, expertise and talents within the classical music industry.
Prior to joining GBYO, Anna served as the COO and CFO of Kettles and Company (KC), the premier provider of production and musical instrument services to professional orchestras throughout the United States and abroad. At Kettles and Company Anna was in charge of all customer relations, new business acquisitions, billings, estimates, marketing, financial accountability as well as scheduling and communications with artists, performance venues, arts presenters and orchestra managements.
In addition to her experience at KC, Anna is an associate partner of Gemini Music Productions (GMP), the largest employer of musicians in the city of New York. GMP is the employer for Lincoln Centers Mostly Mozart Festival, the New York Pops and many other orchestras in the New York Metro area.
Her most recent accomplishment was her participation on the production team of the newly established All Star Orchestra (ASO). The ASO lead by conductor Gerard Schwarz is the most up to date educational PBS TV series offered in recent history. The series will be broadcast on PBS this year and will provide music education to children across the United States.
Anna serves on the Board of TILTS Exceptional Young Artists Fund. The Fund supports young performing artists from the Baltic States and funds their further University/Conservatory studies.
Anna Kepe – Haas holds degrees from The George Washington University in Washington, DC and from the New York University. Kepe – Haas is also a graduate of the 2013 League Of American Orchestras Orchestra management intensive.
The youth orchestras are managed by a Board of Directors with the support of Adult Advisory Association volunteers. Fund raising, hospitality and membership are a few of the many activities through which the board and association provide valuable assistance. Parents of GBYO members are automatically members of the Adult Advisory Association. Other interested adults also share their time and talent.
